"And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." [Mark 16:17-18]
A Christian writes: These scriptures are talking about being filled with the Holy Spirit and casting out demons and laying hands on the the sick. The serpents are symbolic of demons. Also- "...if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them..."-saying that God will protect them from any harm.
You can see over 20 translations of Mark 16:15-20 here.
All make it clear that Jesus is referring to all believers - not just to the apostles.
There is nothing to indicate that the serpents are symbolic. And do you really believe in demons? And God most certainly has not protected Christians from "any harm". If God exists and he protects those who believe in him, then why do bad things happen to Christians?
Kar202 says he believes "every verse in the Bible". Then how can he believe in God, when God will not protect him from poison and snakes?
